Fiber Fineness, Micronaire.

Fineness ( Micronaire).

Fineness:
The thickness of a fiber. Express as The weight per unit length, also called linear density.

Measuring Method Of fiber Fineness:
1.    British System- Milligram/Cm
2.    American – micrograms/inch (mic).
3.    Gram/1000m. Tex.
4.    Gram/9000m. Denier.

Cotton  fiber fineness:
Cotton fiber fineness is measured by American  system Micronaire(mic) Means the weight in micrograms of one cm fiber.

Fineness measured by HVI (High Volume Instrument) M/C

Fineness ( Micronaire).
A fiber sample of constant weight is measured b passing air through the fibers and measuring the drop in pressure.
The micronaire scale has been established empirically with a standers set of cottons and is not linear.
Other factors such as maturity have influence on mocronaire result.
Micronaire ranges for cotton (Short/medium staple.)
Less than 3.0------------Very fine.
3.0 to 3.6----------- Fine.
3.7 to 4.7-------------Medium.
4.8 to 5.4-------------Coarse.
5.5 & higher----------Very Coarse.
